Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Denver has a special significance this year for DMM, as the company launches plans for expansion into the North American market. These include a new U.S. office, new sales structure, and a focused product assortment to serve specialty outdoor retailers and climbing gyms.
Mark Busby, newly appointed VP of North American sales and marketing, will be over-seeing the expansion of DMM North America LLC. Previously, Mark was the climbing category manager for Scarpa North America, based in Boulder, Colorado, for three years.
DMM CEO Richard Rust, commented: “We have full confidence in Mark Busby as our new leader for the brand in North America, a market which offers a huge opportunity for us.”
He continued: “A big thank you to Steve and Lisa, owners of Excalibur Distribution, for introducing DMM to the U.S. market 26 years ago, and working so hard to establish our American story since then.” Excalibur will stop distribution of DMM at the end of 2019, but will continue representing their other brands.
Alongside details of this announcement DMM will be introducing new additions to its core range of hardware at the show. These include Halfnuts and the Shadow HMS carabiner.
Halfnuts use the same proven and versatile profile as Wallnuts but on a single wire and with a reduced width that gives improved stability in shallow placements. Being lightweight—38% lighter than the equivalent size Wallnut 1–7 set—they excel in situations where every gram counts and in pin scars in particular.
The Shadow HMS carabiner is also new for 2020. It is a large, yet lightweight (70g) general purpose HMS biner with a short gate to maximise gate opening and a 27kN major axis rating. The deep and wide top basket can easily take multiple clove hitches. It will be available with screwgate, Locksafe and Kwiklock gates.
The bag range sees several functional and aesthetic updates, and the launch of a compact version of the popular Flight bag called the Short Haul. All the styles get a new face fabric—630D Ballistic Gucci—and improved buckles.
The Short Haul has a thermoformed back panel, side-entry laptop/tablet sleeve and removable webbing waist strap. It is a bag that looks stylish enough to take to the office or head to the climbing gym after work.
The ‘Walls and Centres’ range sees the addition of the Coron Helmet. It has an ABS Shell with EPS liner; developed with intensive use in mind. Adjustment is via a click-wheel and all the individual components are replaceable.
Partnering with Mountain Tools in California, DMM now offer a North America reslinging service for all their Cams and Torque Nuts. Mountain Tools will replace any worn or damaged slings with 8mm Dynatec webbing supplied by us but do not perform a safety inspection of the product.
All new and existing retailers are invited to visit DMM North America at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market June 18–20, 2019 in Denver. You’ll find the team at booth 36089-UL
