Assistant Manager - Textiles

The global demand for our ‘Made in Wales’ climbing, tree care and work at height equipment is growing and we are expanding our team. We are now hiring for an Assistant Manager reporting to the Head of Textiles. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on production manager to work with our growing textiles team.

The Role

This opportunity would suit a candidate with strong leadership skills and a management background in a manufacturing environment. The fundamental requirements of this role are excellent communication skills, effective planning and organisational abilities, the capacity to problem solve and multi-task, and a positive and proactive approach to people, products, and production targets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and manage a textiles production team.
  • Oversee the manufacture of products ensuring that production, performance, and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the activities of the section including production planning, staff, resources, and facilities.
  • Ensure products are produced on time, meeting quality standards and budgets.
  • Continuously review the processes employed, recommending and implementing improvements where appropriate to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Review team performance whilst identifying and implementing training needs.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment for all staff and visitors to production areas.
  • Coordinate maintenance of production equipment.
  • Deputise for the Head of Textiles.

Essential to your success in the role will be the ability to demonstrate

  • Leadership and people management skills; induction, performance management, absence management.
  • Experience in manufacturing scheduling for labour and materials.
  • Good knowledge of H&S, quality systems and their application within the manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in IT applications

HOURS

37.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Product Developer - Textiles

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to advance their career in textile engineering and design. We are looking for a highly motivated Product Developer to join and support our passionate Textiles Design Team in Llanberis. You will be a team player within a small but busy department and will report to the Textile Design Manager. A proactive attitude, an eye for detail and the ability to solve problems independently are essential for this role.

The Role
To assist the Textile Design Team with the development of new and existing DMM products, with a focus on textile manufacturing processes to ensure their successful integration into production, both in-house and with our partnered suppliers, in order to maintain and grow the DMM textile product range.

Tasks include:

  • Development and improvement of sewn and bonded textile concepts and constructions
  • Design, prove and implement new production processes
  • Solve manufacturing issues and implement solutions
  • Sourcing of textile products and supplier relationships including experience:
    • Communicating with materials & sewn-goods suppliers
    • Producing clear and detailed product specifications
    • Choosing and specifying materials correctly for a given purpose
  • Research and present findings of market research and manufacturing solutions
  • Read, understand and carry out testing to EN/ISO standards
  • Conduct a wide range of bespoke laboratory testing
  • Field test concepts and prototypes
  • Write detailed test reports, proofread technical literature and work to the product design process as part of our quality assurance procedure
  • Operate 3D printers, laser cutters and various sewing machines (CNC & non)
  • Any other duties required

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in engineering or industrial design, or a strong background in this field
  • 3 years relevant industry experience including sourcing/supplier relationship
  • A detailed level of knowledge and understanding of sewing
  • Skilled in a digitally driven design process (for example, Solidworks for 3D modelling[D1] )
  • Creative individual to work on their own without guidance, or as part of a small team
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • An active interest in climbing, mountaineering, tree-care or work at height

Desirable Attributes

  • A degree in engineering or industrial design, or a strong background in this field.
  • Software skills – Solidworks, Adobe suite, Patterning software (CLO 3D, Gerber, etc.), Solidworks. Patterning software (CLO 3D, Gerber, etc.)
  • The ability to confidently use & maintain a basic flat-bed sewing machine
  • An understanding of our primary textile production processes, which include: CNC sewing, bar-tacking, webbing construction & sourcing, bonding, laser-cutting, etc.
  • An active interest in climbing, mountaineering, tree-care or work at height

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Manufacturing Engineer

The Role
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve DMM’s production processes, working at the interface between design, quality and manufacturing. This role is focused on process definition, optimisation and documentation, ensuring products are robustly transferred from design into efficient, repeatable production.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys improving how things are made – combining structured engineering methods with practical problem solving on the factory floor.

You will work closely with Design Engineers, Quality and Operations teams and report to the Design Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Define, document and improve manufacturing processes across the factory
  • Support design-for-manufacture activities during new product introduction
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including: work instructions, route cards and inspection documents
  • Identify and implement process improvements to improve quality, efficiency and consistency
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing issues
  • Assist with tooling, jigs and fixtures for production and testing
  • Support production trials, process proving and change management
  • Act as a technical link between design, quality and production teams

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in a manufacturing or production engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and process control
  • Ability to analyse workflows and identify improvement opportunities
  • Good documentation and communication skills
  • Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with design, quality and production teams

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with lean manufacturing tools (value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen)
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, process validation and continuous improvement methods
  • Experience in regulated or safety-critical manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of metal manufacturing processes (forging, CNC machining, heat treatment, anodising)
  • Experience designing or specifying jigs and fixtures

Design Engineer

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer to play a key role in the development of DMM’s metal PPE products, from early concept through to certified production. The role is focused on product design, prototyping, testing, and supporting certification for Class 3 PPE and work-at-height equipment.

You will work as part of a passionate, highly experienced design team and will be involved throughout the full product lifecycle. The role suits someone who enjoys hands-on development, structured problem solving, and seeing products through to real-world use.

You will report to the Design Manager and work closely with manufacturing, quality and testing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new and existing metal PPE products from concept to production
  • Produce 3D CAD models, detailed drawings and BOMs
  • Build, test and iterate prototypes
  • Prepare and carry out testing to EN / ISO standards
  • Support certification and compliance activities for Class 3 PPE
  • Conduct laboratory and field testing of concepts and prototypes
  • Analyse test results and write detailed technical test reports
  • Support manufacturing during product introduction and ramp-up
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design tools, methods and processes
  • Work to the product design process as part of the quality assurance system

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or similar
  • Strong experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years experience developing mechanical products from concept to production
  • Practical experience with prototyping and testing
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

Desirable Attributes

  • An active interest in climbing, mountaineering, tree care or work at height
  • Experience designing PPE or safety-critical products
  • Familiarity with EN / ISO standards and certification processes
  • Understanding of metal manufacturing processes such as hot forging, CNC machining, heat treatment and anodising
  • Experience with FEA or test-led design validation
