Product Markings

Explanation Of General Markings

The markings described below may not appear on every product.

Markings applied to a product will vary depending on its type, intended use, applicable standards, certification requirements, and available marking space.

Some products may carry additional markings not listed here for information necessary for safe use, identification, and traceability.

Users should refer to the product marking and the accompanying Instructions for Use for details specific to their product.

DMM:

Our brand marking can be found on all our products. It identifies the product as being designed and/or manufactured by DMM Wales and provides assurance of product origin, traceability, and authenticity. The DMM marking is a key part of our product identification system and supports compliance, certification, and quality management requirements.

EN Standard:

Identifies the European Standard(s) to which the product has been tested and certified, demonstrating conformity with the applicable performance and safety requirements.

CE0598:

The CE marking indicates conformity with the applicable European legislation. The number 0598 identifies the Notified Body responsible for the PPE conformity assessment and ongoing production surveillance activities.

MBS:

Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS). The minimum load at which the product is expected to fail under laboratory testing conditions. This value is typically expressed in kilonewtons (kN).

WLL:

Working Load Limit (WLL). The maximum load that may be applied to the product during normal use, as specified by the manufacturer. The WLL is derived from the product strength and applicable safety factors.

Product Code:

A unique code used to identify the specific product model and configuration. This code assists with ordering, traceability, and product identification.

Data Matrix:

A machine-readable 2D barcode containing product serial number. The Data Matrix can be scanned to retrieve the serial number, enabling easier and more accurate inspection recording, asset management, and traceability.

Hair Entrapment Warning:

Indicates that users should take precautions to prevent hair, loose clothing, or other materials from becoming caught in moving parts of the product, which could result in injury or interfere with safe operation.

Min / Max Rope Diameter:

Indicates the minimum and maximum rope diameters with which the product has been tested and approved for use. Only ropes within the specified diameter range should be used, as performance and safety may be affected when used with ropes outside these limits. Users should always refer to the Instructions for Use for details of compatible rope types and any additional restrictions or requirements.

Book Pictogram:

Indicates that the user must read and understand the Instructions for Use (IFU) before using the product. The instructions contain important information relating to installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, limitations of use, and safety precautions. Failure to follow the instructions may result in product misuse, equipment damage, serious injury, or death

Serial Number:
A unique identifier assigned to an individual product for traceability purposes. The serial number enables the product to be tracked throughout its lifecycle, including manufacture, quality control, certification, inspection, maintenance, and retirement from service. It should be recorded during inspections and referenced when contacting DMM regarding the product. In many cases, the serial number can also be retrieved by scanning the product's Data Matrix code.

QR Code:
A machine-readable code that, when scanned using a smartphone or other compatible device, provides direct access to the product's Instructions for Use (IFU) and other relevant product information. The QR code allows users to quickly obtain the latest version of the instructions, ensuring access to important safety, inspection, maintenance, and usage information. QR codes are only present on certain products where applicable.

Unique Serial Marking

All DMM products both metal and textiles carry a unique serial number, please see note below re Passive Pro. The number allows every single item to be individually traced back to its original date and order of production. The way it works is as follows:

YRDAYXXXX#
YR – Year of Manufacture
20 – 2020
21 – 2021
22 – 2022
23 – 2023
24 – 2024 etc.

DAY – The day of the year on which the product was marked
004 – would be the 4th of January
032 – would be the 1st of February
344 – would be the 10th of December

XXXX – Individual serial number
0001 – would be the first component marked on that day
0050 – would be the fiftieth component marked during the day

# – The machine with which the component was serialised
The letter at the end of the serial number identifies the machine which the product or label has been applied.
