Rhino-Ceros.

The Rhino HMS carabiner tackles cross loading head on! The horn feature on the leading edge of the spine significantly reduces the possibility of cross loading with rigging, belay & rope devices, and pulleys by restricting the rotation of devices, whilst the clean nose design provides snag-free gate entry. The smooth and robust top bar is contrasted by our signature I-Beam construction on the non-rope bearing surfaces.

FEATURES

HMS for space and rigging

HMS connectors are pear shaped and often have similar characteristics to ovals in how they deal with loaded components, i.e. they also allow devices and connectors to self-centre. Moreover, the extended basket allows for additional component connection. Knots in a system such as an Italian hitch can rotate easily between taking in and paying out (even with larger diameter ropes). In general, HMS connectors are slightly oversized to accommodate the added volume of bigger ropes and to feel secure in a gloved hand.

Keylock clean nose for snag free connection

DMM's patented 'Taperlock' closing mechanism increases gate push-in and cross gate strength using a special flared profile on the nose of the carabiner, as well as allowing a snag free connection for your ropes, slings and devices.

Wide, full radius basket provides a rope and device friendly operation

Pronounced horn and flat base encourage optimal loading

The top of the Rhino's spine prevents assisted braking devices and rope controllers from twisting around the spine and cross-loading the carabiner. The Rhino's flat base helps it sit in the belay loop, and works with the horn to help the Rhino orientate correctly.

Locking gate types

Screwgate

Manual locking gate requiring screwing/unscrewing of the barrel to lock/unlock.

Kwiklock

Auto-locking gate requiring two distinct actions to open.

Locksafe

Auto-locking gate requiring three distinct actions to open.

Durolock

Auto-locking gate requiring four distinct operations to open. Force must be maintained throughout or the gate returns to safe (locked).

Kwiklock ANSI

Same gate action as Kwiklock but the connector is also required to exceed 16kN in minor axis, side load and gate face tests.

Locksafe ANSI

Same gate action as Locksafe but the connector is also required to exceed 16kN in minor axis, side load and gate face tests.

Perfect for assisted braking devices and canyoning descenders

Love these carabiners. Fit perfectly on the CE4Y Devil 8, CanyonWerks Critr3 descenders among many other popular canyoning descenders. Often use them with my GriGri and Rig as well. The horn on the top prevents them from rolling and sideloading.

Not sure what the previous comment is on about, rhino can roll upside down easily on gear loop allowing anything it's attached to to sit nicely.

On the fence

I've tried this with a gri gri and, whilst it is great in use as it keep everything in place and safe, it's kind of annoying when clipped to a gear loop as the gri gri can't rotate around and hang nicely.

The best belay krab

The round bar and nose means the rope runs smoothly in both regular belaying and guide mode belaying and cross loading almost never happens. Next time I'll order the kwiklock as opposed to the screwgate, as I do find it starts to slowly unscrew easily without much movement needed whilst belaying top rope.

The perfect carabiner for a GriGri

As per the title, gri gri fits perfectly inside the carabiner and won’t cross load or spin round.
I mean of course it’s good for other things too :)
