Shame it's been discontinued....maybe DMM will reintroduce it.....one day....

This is a great 'eared-eight'. It has more mass than a standard eight (DMM Anka 173g, standard DMM 'deaf-eight' at 111g); good for fast abseils. It also makes a very functional canyoning descender. The small hole is large enough to accommodate 2 karabiners and the orientation of the small hole is at 90 ° to the large hole (which I prefer), obviously you could put it on a cutaway sling allowing it to orient to your preferred angle. The ears will obviate the possibility of encountering girth-hitching, although I've never had that problem with my 'DMM Deaf-Eight' either.

I have actually abseiled 17m on 6mm Technora-sheathed rap-line using the DMM Anka and there was plenty of friction when using a figure-4 wrap (brake-end through the HMS karabiner).

I don't mind the extra weight; after all, we are talking a mere 62g difference between the standard DMM 'Deaf-Eight' (111g) and the DMM Anka (173g).
