Why Believe In Dragons

Where Dragon 2 offered one solution, the new range is split into two – each focused on a different style of climbing. Dragon 3 uses a thumb loop for secure, stable handling, while Dragon 3 Air continues the legacy of the thumb press and extendable sling, with the design focus on minimising rack weight.

Both are built from the original Dragon platform, with updated geometry to increase usable range and remove unnecessary weight.

RangePlus

Increased usable range

Through extensive real world testing on various rock types we have better understanding of how cam lobes engage with the rock. With this enhanced knowledge, we have moved away from the constant camming angle at 13.75°. Instead we have increased the range by moving to a variable camming angle, where the cam angle increases at more retracted placements, increasing the range and overlap between sizes.

TripleGrip+

improves engagement with the rock

TripleGrip+ offers an evolution on TripleGrip, improving on the machined Dragon cam surface, by adding micro-texture for improved engagement with coarse rock types. This reduces walking, and improves the engagement with the rock to ensure a secure, reliable performance.

  • Machined contact surface, increasing friction in smooth rock types, such as limestone.
  • Machined micro-texture for added grip in coarse rock types, such as sandstones or gritstone.
  • Large teeth for bite in coarse rock types, such as granite.
  • Longitudinal grooves improve stability and reduce rotation.

TrussTech

uncompromised strength, reduced weight

The larger Dragon cams use a truss design, to distribute the load more efficiently. This allows material to be removed where it is not required, reducing weight while maintaining strength.

LightWeight

and durable

Both the Dragon 3 and Dragon 3 Air have undergone comprehensive weight reduction, building on the TrussTech lobe design. The result is one of the lightest cam ranges available, with no compromise on durability.
